I have three cousins with disabilities - Wyatt, Sam & Nick. Because of these three, I’ve always had a special place in my heart for those with disabilities.
When I was in college, I became a leader for Young Life Capernaum (a youth group for those with disabilities). During this time, I noticed several of my friends were struggling to find employment. I noticed many would graduate from school and weren’t able to transition into the workforce.
When I looked into this more - I learned that nearly 75% of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities were unemployed - despite their ability, desire, and willingness to work.
So, I started Stir It Up with the mission to employ & empower individuals of all abilities. We started small in 2016, out of my parent’s home kitchen. Eight years later, here we are in a kitchen of our own in Hudsonville, Michigan.
When you support Stir It Up, I hope you not only enjoy a high quality baked good, but that you witness the gift that people with disabilities are to our world.
